1.Choose the Adoption Agency

The potential adoptive parents to your child will need help when considering adoption as a way to grow their family. Our local Kansas adoption agency will support you as the birth mother. It may have resources for your child’s potential adoptive parents to get them started to begin their adoption process.

2. Pick the type of Adoption

Our adoption agency in Kansas will be happy to guide you through picking the type of adoption that your child’s potential parents may want is all about their preferences and yours. Talking to them about their comfort level of communication while having some boundaries will consider the thoughts and feelings of both you and their adoptive parents. Being a birth mother means sharing your thoughts when needed, so remember to voice what kind of adoption you want, open, semi, or closed adoption, so that you and the adoptive parents are all on the same page.

3. Create your Adoption Plan

Your adoptive parents might want to include specific things when creating their Kansas adoption plan, which may have them be or not be present during the labor and delivery, how your hospital stay will go. If you let them know if you will prefer some space during this time, you will most likely be overwhelmed with emotion, or do you prefer them to be with you right after the baby is born? Here are some things you may want to consider when talking to them about their adoption plan:

  • Do they want separate time with the baby after birth?
  • Do they plan on any special religious service at the hospital?
  • Do they want/ have a specific name or nickname picked for the child?

Keeping these things in mind will let the adoptive parents know that their voices are heard and do matter as a big part of this life-changing decision. Also, know that the Kansas adoption agency will be happy to assist you with further questions, concerns.

4. Choose your Child’s Biological Family

When adoptive parents first meet you, the birth mother, remember that the adoptive parents might have the values and beliefs they want to teach your child. Being open and honest about your thoughts will leave room for open communication to see if it’s a match between you all. Remember, as much as you choose them as parents, they also choose you to let you be a big part of their lives. They will be taking their time to get to know you and each birth mother personally by reading their birth mother portfolio. Understanding you as a person and mother might help them form a connection that might positively adopt.
