Reasons to Choose LGBT Adoptive Parents as a Birth Mother
Do you have specific requirements and wishes when it comes to your child’s future adoptive parents? Do you want them to be raised within a certain style of family? As you study various prospective adoptive parent profile books with your adoption caseworker, you may have come across several LGBT couples and individuals looking to adopt. Depending on what you know, you may wonder if this is the best fit for your child. Or, you may be interested in your child growing up to be more accepting and respectful of others and their differences.
If you find yourself in either of these lines of thinking, Adoption Choices of Kansas is here to help. As a gay-friendly adoption agency, we welcome all variations of family and will never discriminate. Our purpose is to find loving, happy and healthy homes for your child and will to provide you with the most positive and empowering adoption journey ever. Here are our three top reasons to choose LGBT adoptive parents as a birth mother.
Who are LGBT Couples?
First, we want to define what an LGBT adoptive family could look like, and a little background on the LGBT community members themselves. LGBT stands for “lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.” We acknowledge and understand that other letters have been added as well. Families with the LGBT community can include, but are not limited to: two moms, two dads or single parents.
In June 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that all LGBT marriages be made legal. This also allowed LGBT couples and individuals to adopt. As a result, LGBT adoptive parents are becoming more and more common in today’s world, forever changing the way we look at family.
Reasons to Choose LGBT Adoptive Parents as a Birth Mother
- They are supportive. It is no surprise that LGBT couples are supportive. That they are all too happy to financially, emotionally and physically provide for your child. Many of them have been waiting a long time to grow their family, and are dedicated to giving your child the best life possible. Like any good parent would, your child’s LGBT adoptive parents will make sure to encourage and support them as they grow up. Teach them value life lessons, and let them explore life to decide who they want to become. They will not discriminate with who your child decides to love, and cannot “turn him or her gay.” Rather, your child’s LGBT adoptive parents can help them confidently face issues and grow to be more accepting and tolerant of others’ differences.
- They are understanding. LGBT adoptive parents, perhaps more than anyone else, understand that everyone is unique. They understand that everyone goes through differences in life and that it may take time for someone to understand theirs. LGBT couples and individuals recognize mistakes that your baby will make and won’t judge him or her. This is one of the wonderful reasons to choose LGBT adoptive parents as a birth mother because this will encourage your child to become more understanding, accepting and respectful of themselves and others. Understanding parents make great role models when setting your child up for success.
- They are social. LGBT couples and individuals are huge advocates for themselves and others, and can introduce your child to many different kinds of people. This can help your child make lots of friends as he or she becomes older. Being more social can also provide your child with more insight into the LGBT community and learn that individuality is something to be celebrated. That everyone is special and should be respected. This can teach your child to have higher self-esteem, which can grow into confidence. If your child has a healthier sense of themselves and grows to be confident, he or she is more apt to excel academically and treat others better as a whole.
LGBT Adoptive Parents
LGBT couples and individuals are becoming increasingly common in the adoption world, but are one of the best types of families to choose when considering adoption. They recognize differences, are loving, accepting and will always be supportive of your child.
